Ninindi means “river running free, flowing like a river” and is a name that is combination of words from two Indigenous languages, and was given to her by a friend. This describes the spirit of her music well, a lively combination of joyful inspiration and emotional expressiveness.
Ninindi began her musical performance career at the blackboard nights of Port Douglas in the late 1990s. She took a break from this to raise six beautiful children, complete a Bachelor of Visual Arts from James Cook University and to study the arts of self awareness and spirituality.
In 2002, she released her debut Album 'Water'. This was created in response to water crisis in Australia, and the recording guy was none other than Imants “Freddie” Strauks, former drummer of the hit Aussie band The Skyhooks.
Approximately ten years ago, she started performing at blackboard nights again and quickly became a hit at the Upfront Club, alongside world-class musicians. A crowd of (mostly women) danced the night away, and fellow musician Danny Rose later commented “Ninindi has had great reactions from audiences at many of our open mic nights. She has excellent pitch of voice and engages the audience with her direct approach and clear lyrics“.
When she's not performing around Maleny, uplifting spirits with her songs, she's creating custom love songs. Ninindi is motivated to share her love of music as a powerful source of encouragement and wellbeing. She desires to spread that love, and develop awareness and a love of nature, bringing a meditative experience to her audience.
She enjoys conveying emotion through music, and finds harmonies delicious. This is a fond memory of hers too, of driving long distance singing with her parents and learning the keyboard. Music brings people together, and that's what Ninindi's music is really all about: bringing people together and having a positive impact on each other.
